My friend is doing some renovation too. She recently painted her wall in a collection of stripes. Below are photos, videos, and in her own words, a description of the process.
In her own words "I'm
not sure how I feel about the stripes as some notes that it looks like
gift wrapping paper. I've used 6 colors- a metallic copper with reddish
undertones from Valspar, raspberry, two shades of pink, a terrcotta that
is a subtle 50% darker than the wall color but it is the beautiful
bright grasshopper green that pops it all. My intention was not to
create wall paper with paint but to add a graphic element and color that
would add visual interest, add Roz's "ooh, ooh ah and make the room
appear larger. I now have a pattern and I think that I need to
"relieve/rest the eye" by painting wider strips of the actual wall color
subdue the pattern. My painter said he likes it but now he thinks it
too much color. I'm not sure. Still living with it.'
I am so impressed, it looks beautiful.

I needed to punctuate my paragraph and go easy on the run-on sentences. I hope though, that you got the gist of what I was trying to say....
