Where People Work/Brooklyn Harvest Market

Well it's about time, FINALLY, we have a supermarket on the block.  It's probably been over 30 years since and we the Lindsay Park residents (building 1 and 2) had to walk at least 4+ blocks to go grocery shopping.

That day is over, Brooklyn Harvest Market, opened today and I am so glad that it's here.  It is around the corner and everything from the brands that I like, to fresh vegetables and cooked food as well, I look forward to filling the shopping cart up.

Message To Hardware Stores

You will recall my Hardware store experience when I was putting on a new door knob (They Said It Couldn't Be Done). Well here we go again.....
I recently saw this video tutorial Product Photography TutorialIn the video he uses 2 CLAMPS to hold the board that becomes a back drop.  I stopped in Wankel's Hardware to pick up 2 CLAMPS.

Here is my exchange....

"Hello, do you have CLAMPS?"
"Do you mean like these?" holding paper clips with an odd look on his face.  He asked me this question a few times.
"No I want CLAMPS those are paper clips, I am looking for CLAMPS"
"Do you mean for clothes on the line"
"No I mean CLAMPS they are larger than that.....(with a huff) let me see what you have"
He then directs a sales person on the floor to help me, telling him to show me the  clothes pins.
I explain to the the sales person, that I am looking for CLAMPS and he got it. The CLAMPS were in the front near the register.  I asked him is this called CLAMPS or something else.
He said "No you were correct."
"...just because I am a woman doesn't mean I don't know what I am looking for.  This was really annoying"

This happens a lot at Hardware stores.  They are notorious for this type of exchange with women.  Even if you ask for it by name, company, serial number, and size, the salesmen act as though you said "Do you sell  something, that looks like this thing that is on the door of that building on the street where I live?"

Hardware stores please stop and listen to the customer.  Some of us know exactly what we want.

PS the floor sales person made an effort to listen and find what I wanted.  I don't know who it was working the register, but he is an IDIOT!!

 Below the video tutorial.

My New Shevon Gant Bowls

Shevon Gant bowls, Mchanga place mats
Shevon Gant is a ceramic artist who creates beautiful plates, bowls, jewelry and more.  Today I began, again, collecting handmade, quirky, interesting, colorful, lovely, dinnerware.

When I got home I Christened the Obama bowl with a drop of leftover soup (made from scratch by a friend).

Then later it was time for some spaghetti (uh.....that wasn't homemade, but it was good).

These bowls are a really good size for salad, cereal, Chinese stir fry, or what ever.  Even better, they are microwaveable (YES!!!).   It is way more delicious eating out of something handmade, it makes an ordinary meal, seems a bit more exotic.

Company Is Coming

Vintage By Cassandra

This holiday you are either going to bring out the best china and pray or you can relax with some pretty white cups available on Etsy. Cheap enough for you not to sweat your clumsy cousin who manages to breaks a dish, cup, glass, lamp, or something every year.

KNIFED!

I finally made myself put this on my errand list, Have scissors sharpen. They had gotten so dull, they would not cut air. So I knew of a great old company call Henry Westpfal Co., Inc. Est 1874 (above picture from Chung Food.com).
I had not been there for years but I remembered they were on 30th Street in Manhattan. Searching the Internet I found the address (on another blog).
As I walked down 30th street, it was clear that Westpfal with the big scissor hanging outside was not there. Seems like every block in New York is under construction with buildings being torn down and new ones coming up. West 30th between 6th and 7th Ave was no different. THANK GOD I jotted down the phone number and that was still the same. Now located on 25th Street I will have my scissors in a couple of days.

Any kind of blade they will sharpen, so I am gathering up some old knives that are in need of some grinding. They are old school so I did not find a website. If you have dull knives, then you need this info. Ask about the mail order service:
